What to expect with Swaddl.
You don't have to finish everything in one sitting. Here's the whole process at a glance: how families reach you, what happens on each call, and how you get paid. That way you always know what's next.

How families find you
You don't have to hunt for clients here. Mia matches families to the doulas who fit them, based on location, the benefits they have (like Carrot), the kind of care they need, and more. Some families also search for a specific doula by name and book them directly.
Either way, when a family wants to meet you, you'll get an intro-call request by email and right on your dashboard.
From the first call to your first shift
- Free intro call. A short video call (on Google Meet, no account needed) so you and the family can see if it's a fit.
- Contract. If you both want to move forward, you send a contract right through Swaddl. The family signs online.
- Payment + scheduling. The family pays through Swaddl, your shifts land on your calendar, and care begins.
Every step happens inside Swaddl, so nothing slips through email threads or text messages.
When and how you get paid
You set your own hourly rate. Families pay through Swaddl up front, and you're paid out to your bank account every week for the shifts you've completed. Payouts go securely through Stripe, so we never see your bank details.
The rate you set is what the family pays. Swaddl's platform fee comes out of it. That's what funds the billing engine, benefits claims, and support. You'll see the exact fee and your take-home on every rate field as you set it, and on every contract before you send it. During the pilot there's no membership fee. You can always see what's been paid and what's coming on your Earnings page.
To receive payouts you'll connect a bank account through Stripe. It's one of your setup steps, and you can do it whenever you're ready.
What Mia reviews, and how long it takes
Before you go live to families, Mia personally reviews a few things so every family can trust who they're matched with:
- Your certification, CPR, and liability insurance
- A short video interview, so she can get to know you
A background check is optional and entirely yours to run. It isn't part of being approved. If you do one and share the result, we add it to your profile.
She moves quickly and keeps you posted at each step. You can keep building the rest of your profile while you wait, so you're ready the moment you're approved.
A few common questions
Do I have to finish my profile all at once?
No. Everything saves as you go, so you can leave and come back whenever you have a few minutes. The compliance pieces (credentials and insurance), your calendar, and your intro-call hours are what Mia needs to approve you; the rest you can polish anytime.
When can families book me?
Once you're approved, you've published your availability, and your Google Calendar is connected. Until then we'll guide you to whatever's left.
Why connect a calendar and set availability?
That's how families book intro calls and shifts. Swaddl puts each one straight onto your calendar with a video link, and never books over times you're already busy.
What if I get stuck?
Email Mia anytime. She'll walk you through it, or hop on a quick call with you.
